According to your instructions, I attended on
the 17th ultimo at the Yamên of the Namhoi Magistrate
the trial of the two extradited criminals from Hong-
kong, Kuan Kuei Hung and Lu A Ch'ang.
The former had been extradited on two charges,
(1) of plundering the Chên Ch'uan Kuan San licensed
passenger boat, and (2) of having extorted various
sums as blackmail from firms at Lo Ts'ung Hui in the
Shun Tak District.
The latter was accused by the Chinese Authori-
ties of having in September last year seized and held
to ransom for Tls. 1,200 Dr. Ng Sheung Hsin, and his
rendition had been granted on this accusation.
Kuan Kuei Hung admitted that he extorted, in the
name of the Ch'uan I T'ang Society, a sum of $100
from the T'ung Shêng firewood shop at Lo Ts'ung Hui
in
James Scott Esq.,
His Majesty's Acting Consul General,
Canton.
